Our approach

OwnWay employees are expected to recognise possible abuse or neglect, listen carefully, record concerns accurately and report concerns promptly. Staff must not promise to keep a safeguarding concern secret where sharing is necessary to protect someone.

Immediate danger

If someone is in immediate danger or a serious crime is taking place, call 999.

Raising a concern with OwnWay

Email support@ownway.uk. Mark the message as a safeguarding concern where appropriate. OwnWay will consider immediate safety, the person's wishes and capacity, whether information needs to be shared and whether a referral to Adult Social Care or the Police is required.

West Sussex safeguarding

A member of the public can discuss an adult safeguarding concern with West Sussex on 01243 642121. Professionals can contact the Safeguarding Adults Hub on 03302 228400 for advice. For an urgent concern outside usual Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm hours, the Adult Social Care out of hours number is 03302 227007.

Consent and information sharing

Where it is safe and appropriate, the adult's wishes are central to safeguarding decisions. Information may still need to be shared without consent where there is serious risk, risk to another person, a legal requirement or another lawful safeguarding reason.

Concerns about an OwnWay employee

Allegations about an employee are taken seriously and are managed separately from any decision about immediate safeguarding referral. OwnWay may restrict duties while concerns are assessed where that is necessary to protect people and the integrity of an investigation.

Our service boundaries

OwnWay's launch service provides practical independent living support. It does not provide personal care, nursing care, clinical treatment, medication administration or physical lifting and transferring as part of personal care.
